dishes in Malaysia

One thing that has been on my list of things to do while we are here in Singapore is go to this dish factory in Malaysia that I have heard amazing things about. A couple groups of ladies from church have gone but I have always missed out since Brennan is at work and I don't have a helper. When I heard of another trip getting planned I decided to ask Brennan to try to work from home so I could go. And I am so glad I did!

I jumped on the bus around 7:30 in the morning to get up to the Woodlands by 9. Then we all piled in Suzy's car and she was nice enough to drive us all up to Malaysia. So there is a Claytan China dish factory there. Across from that they have this big tent set up with tons and tons of "seconds" for insanely cheap. They have also carried Spode seconds in the past. They actually stopped receiving new Spode awhile back so once what they have is gone, it's gone. Luckily I got to snag some!

Dishes.
Some Spode.
These dishes were really cool. If I had more room to bring stuff back when we move in a few months I probably would have bought an entire new set of everyday china. It was all so cheap! But sadly, I don't.

Here are the Spode blue and whites. These were my reason to go. And I think every lady in the group ended up getting some.

I got 12 of the dessert plates that are the Asian style. Seems like a good souvenir of our time here in Asia.

Something super embarrassing happened when I was getting ready to pay for my dishes. I was talking to some of the ladies I was there with, trying to decide what size syrup containers I should get and I suddenly got so hot and felt like I was going to pass out. This happens with me more often than I would like, and just happened when my parents were here visiting. I had to go sit down on the ground just outside the tent to try to get more of a breeze and I was suddenly just dripping in sweat! I hadn't even felt hot before that! So embarrassing. Some good did come of it though. While I was hanging out on the ground I spotted an elephant piggy bank on a lower shelf that I hadn't seen before and totally ended up buying it for the kids. I guess it all happened for a reason. ;) haha

I mean this piggy bank is pretty stinking adorable. And Declan loves to hug it which is also quite adorable.

After we all got our wonderfully beautiful and cheap dishes we headed for some fruit. It is insane how much cheaper fruit is in Malaysia compared to Singapore. I really liked the fact that they would cut into any of the fruit and let you try it, that way you would know if it was good. It was especially nice since a lot of the fruit we had never heard of before, let alone tried. Unfortunately, I  knew I was headed home on a bus later with quite a few plates, so I had to limit myself to just two pineapple. I wish I could have stocked up more.

The cutest little rocking horses and chairs.
HUGE bananas. I should have taken a picture that gave some comparison to something. Oops. Just trust me, they were big. :)
I can't remember what this fruit was called but I've never seen anything like it before. It's not one we tried.
Trying some mango.
After the fruit stands we piled back in the car and headed back to good old SG. Tatum was pretty darn excited about the pineapple I brought back. :) She stood by the sink just gnawing on some of the center pieces trying to get as much off around the outside as she could. And we kept hearing her go "mm-mm-mm-mm-MMM". It was hilarious.

I can't even tell you how nice it was to get away for a whole day. Even riding the bus for over two hours in one day all alone was amazing. Don't get me wrong, I totally love my kids but it was like I didn't even realize how badly I needed some time away. I have never gone so long without any kind of break as I have in Singapore. I am so grateful that Brennan was willing to work and watch the kids at the same time, allowing me to go. And he even cooked dinner! What a guy. :)

  1. Looks like an awesome adventure! Oh man dishes and plates...I need to go there too! I"m so glad you were able to go. About helpers...I am just shocked at how everyone has one. I mean not everyone but it just seems so crazy to me. I guess they are super cheap and it would be amazing to have one so you could just go but at the same time it seems weird to me. Oh well. That elephant bank is the bomb!
